Now is Not the Time to Hesitate….

Well begun is half done“, the wisdom of Mary Poppins strikes a simple note. A lesson to be considered. The importance of getting off to a good start cannot be underestimated. Success often requires it. A pandemic demands it…

Just over a year ago businesses were rapidly shuttering while owners shuddered. The dark pandemic shroud had covered the globe. Questions far exceeded answers. Anxiety and fear were the overriding emotions of 2020. The daily Covid-19 updates were crushing. Impossible to comprehend. A pandemic was upon us…

I clung to the news daily desperate for information. Bill Gates provided scientific tutorials for the layperson on mRNA vaccine development. The Great Hope. I hung on his every word while he explained the benefits of messenger RNA vaccines. How steep would this learning curve be? The pressure of time was upon us. Will this new vaccine technology lead us out of this pandemic abyss? Questions of when began to replace if? Salvation was coming to fruition. Just two injections. The introduction of J & J’s “one and done” vaccine would soon follow. Three safe and effective vaccines getting FDA (Food and Drug Administration) emergency use approval. There was light…

Vaccine production began to flow with the force of the Mississippi River. Life changing. Lifesaving. The Biden administration assurances gave us all hope. There was a way out of this. A real chance. The next stair to climb. When can we get an appointment? Concerns over vaccine supply began to replace the worry of purchasing sanitizing wipes. Appointments would soon become available. The hunt was on. Sites crashed. Midnight appointment searches replaced sleep. Our short supply of nerves challenged yet again. Our health and safety were on the line.  All we had to do was age-up and safely make it to that syringe…

My second dose of vaccine is scheduled for April 30th. Visions of sugar plums dance in my head. The reassuring thought of being vaccinated is very much like Christmas for me. The meaning behind being fully vaccinated even more profound. We have lost so much. Our lives have barely resembled what we once took for granted. So many lives…

The CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) has reported that 5 million people have received their first shot of Pfizer or Moderna but have missed their second dose. That is 8% of our population. People are foregoing their second injection. They are missing the window of allotted time for their second dose. We will soon be missing our “window of time” on a much grander scale. What about herd immunity? Haven’t they heard? What has happened? Are we swirling politics in the protective vial? Is it vaccine hesitancy? Anti-vaxxers? Worries of J&J?

How about the dangers of contracting Covid-19? The variants are real. They are thriving amongst us. The threat of more developing is also very possible and increasingly dangerous. Weariness is understandable but Covid-19 amnesia is unacceptable…

How many more firsts are we going to miss? Grandchildren we have yet to meet.  More special occasions celebrated via zoom. The warmth of hugging a family member will remain a distant memory. The social distancing dance will continue. How many more unnecessary goodbyes are yet to be remotely said?
